ÎLE DE LA CITÉ

TOURVILLE LOVES ÎLE DE LA CITÉ

A charming place to stroll in Paris: Île de la Cité, a natural island located on the Seine between the 1st and 4th districts...

You want to walk in a quiet and green place for an afternoon? Or do you want to discover the origins of Paris?

Without hesitation, Île de la Cité will meet your expectations.

It is part of the natural islands of Paris where it is good to walk. Ancient cradle of the city of Lutetia, name given to the capital in the Gallo-Roman era, this island remains one of the mythical places of the city. As the columnist Gui de Bazoches, columnist of the third crusade in 1190, said, Île de la Cité is: "the head, the heart and the marrow of Paris".

But what's on this island? Why should we go there?

It is, already, a very romantic and intimate place for a date. Sit in the sunny Green Giant Square with a picnic. Then, take the time to walk along the waterfront on the stone cobblestones or on the Pont-Neuf.

It is also a gathering place on summer evenings. It is one of the most beautiful spots to watch the sunset on the river.

AN ISLAND FULL OF CHARM

It is, also, a place that contains architectural wonders...

We recommend you to visit the civil and religious gothic architectural complex of France dating from the Middle Ages which gathers three famous monuments: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sainte-Chapelle, and the Conciergerie.

Notre-Dame is an emblematic place of worship in Paris, still under renovation following the fires it suffered in 2019... The Sainte-Chapelle du Palais was built to house the Holy Crown of Thorns. Regarding the Conciergerie, it is in fact a former prison where for the anecdote the queen Marie-Antoinette was executed. Several towers make up this prison, including one that has the oldest public clock in Paris.

We advise you to go to the Marché des Fleurs, present since 1808 on the Place Louis Lépine. You will have plenty to see, and plenty to smell! Several dozens of types of flowers and plants are exposed under pretty metal pavilions. At the Marché des Fleurs, perfumes, colors and smiles will make you feel elsewhere. A place full of magic.

We suggest that you also stop there on a Sunday, because on that day of the week, birds take the place of flowers!
